group exhibition “A Journey to a Foreign Land”

Kinosho Kikaku is pleased to present the group exhibition “A Journey to a Foreign Land” starting October 11, 2025.

When we walk through a strange land, we are traveling not only through the landscape, but also within ourselves. In this exhibition, four artists with different backgrounds will depict the world as they see it through their own “journeys.

Through the confusion, discovery, and quiet empathy felt in these foreign lands, the exhibition encourages viewers to “travel” as well. We hope you will take this opportunity to step away from the everyday and discover a new landscape through the eyes of others.

The works in the “Mushroom & Bird” series are a fusion of the warmth of camphor wood and the texture of mineral pigments, creating a fantastical form. The design of the mushroom head overlaid with a bird design symbolizes the ambiguity of evolution and the transformation of living creatures, and combines the playfulness of a fairy tale with philosophical depth. Using the “ippkizukuri” technique of the late Nara and early Heian periods, the artist has captured the unique character of the mushroom bird in each piece, giving each piece its own unique texture and fragrance due to the different woods used.

Statement

He has been presenting imaginary life forms called “contactors” using ceramic materials. Currently, he is expanding his range of expression by creating paintings based on contactors.
Even today, with the spread of the Internet and the popularity of social networking services, it is still difficult for humans to communicate with each other easily, so I have chosen to use pop culture such as manga and anime, which people feel more familiar with, as a character to connect others and myself, the creator.

Statement
I work with oil paint, plaster, digital prints, and other media on the theme of ambiguity and boundaries. I paint over and over with oil paint, searching for the object. The ears are large so that the viewer can easily see where he or she is.
Recently, he has also been concentrating on drawing lines with charcoal pencils as if he were scraping them off. Now I am concentrating on scraping and painting in addition to applying layers of oil paint. I draw out from the support and painting materials and output.

Ikitsugi’s solo exhibition “My Nails Were Long”

KINOSHO KIKAKU will present Ikitsugi’s solo exhibition “My Nails Were Long” starting Saturday, September 20, 2025.

Ikitsugi creates works that speak to viewers about the diverse relationships between the depicted characters and themselves, through paintings in a “flat” state that bridge two-dimensional and three-dimensional space. This exhibition marks Ikitsugi’s second show at KINOSHO KIKAKU since the group exhibition in March 2025, and their first solo exhibition at the venue. We invite you to take this opportunity to view this exhibition.

Ikitsugi’s solo exhibition “My Nails Were Long”

The nails at the tips of people’s fingers always grow on their own
In such a place where nerves run, always picking up the slightest sensations, yet they always grow on their own

He who vanishes from before my eyes without warning reappears just as suddenly, bearing a different expression
Somewhere unknown to me, he continues making subtle changes

I have no idea what he’s thinking
I have no idea what he’ll say next
Because that belongs only to him
But if he’s going to tell me something, I want to know before anyone else
I search for ways to know first
I sketch him. I record him.

Without him, I can’t sketch anything
Like a finger that’s lost its nail

I gaze at his back
Trace the outline where he once was
Breathe the same air

Born in 2001.
Through my art, I explore the diverse relationships between characters and us.
I contemplate the places and environments where characters exist, the events that unfold there, and how we can maintain psychologically and physically close relationships while respecting each other’s identities.
I depict new forms of human relationships in the modern era where living alongside characters from anime, games, and other media has become commonplace, along with the new lifestyles, communication, and perspectives on life that flourish within them.
