鶴川勝一 Shoichi Tsurukawa

Born in Tokyo, 1984

This work expresses a unique matiere of complex emotional colors by constructing patterns using the traditional technique of tsutsugaki textile printing, and filling the dyed cloth with cotton.

I draw “shields” painted with the colors of life. It is a means of protecting myself from the blades of anxiety, fear, and anger, the emotional scourges that come at me daily.
I believe that these “shields” have the power to heal and to fight, and that they have the power to bring relief, vitality, and imagination to those who see them.
My works may be better understood if you view them as talismans or amulets, with a prayer that the “misfortune” will “go away.
