KINOSHO KIKAKU will present Ikitsugi’s solo exhibition “My Nails Were Long” starting Saturday, September 20, 2025.
Ikitsugi creates works that speak to viewers about the diverse relationships between the depicted characters and themselves, through paintings in a “flat” state that bridge two-dimensional and three-dimensional space. This exhibition marks Ikitsugi’s second show at KINOSHO KIKAKU since the group exhibition in March 2025, and their first solo exhibition at the venue. We invite you to take this opportunity to view this exhibition.
Ikitsugi’s solo exhibition “My Nails Were Long”
The nails at the tips of people’s fingers always grow on their own
In such a place where nerves run, always picking up the slightest sensations, yet they always grow on their own
He who vanishes from before my eyes without warning reappears just as suddenly, bearing a different expression
Somewhere unknown to me, he continues making subtle changes
I have no idea what he’s thinking
I have no idea what he’ll say next
Because that belongs only to him
But if he’s going to tell me something, I want to know before anyone else
I search for ways to know first
I sketch him. I record him.
Without him, I can’t sketch anything
Like a finger that’s lost its nail
I gaze at his back
Trace the outline where he once was
Breathe the same air

Born in 2001.
Through my art, I explore the diverse relationships between characters and us.
I contemplate the places and environments where characters exist, the events that unfold there, and how we can maintain psychologically and physically close relationships while respecting each other’s identities.
I depict new forms of human relationships in the modern era where living alongside characters from anime, games, and other media has become commonplace, along with the new lifestyles, communication, and perspectives on life that flourish within them.
