ーー

Humor in sadness, sadness in joy, comfort in discomfort.
I paint mainly in oil, with a sense of love for the quiet buzzing of emotions that I suddenly feel in my daily life.

Many of his recent works are inspired by his stage creations. I have resumed theater, which I studied as a child, a few years ago, and I feel that my creative consciousness has changed as I experiment with different approaches to expression: painting, sculpture, and theater. I have come to trust more in my sensual impulses and inspirations for creation, and to want to experiment playfully and casually. I also want to create as if I were spinning a poetic tale, throwing fragments of my own memories and senses into the world of images that rise up unconsciously.

During the exhibition, a mini-performance of an improvised two-person show will be held with MURAYAMA Chiaki of “Kakuteiya,” who co-created a two-person show on stage this spring and a video work to be exhibited in this exhibition.

MANABU KISHIMOTO

美術家 / Artist
1990 Born in Minamikawachi-gun, Osaka, Japan Lives and works in Tokyo, Japan
Graduated from Rikkyo University, Faculty of Modern Psychology, Department of Moving Images and the Body

MANABU KISHIMOTO questions categorization and depicts pure human beings by scraping off layers and layers of paint.
Race, gender, nationality, and appearance are among the elements that make up human beings, but they are only partial.
Since 2000, the society surrounding social networking services has sought to improve the efficiency of understanding by categorizing and simplifying human beings.
However, human beings are based on contingency and uncategorizable gradations.

His works are created using the traditional Japanese lacquer technique of “Togidashi” (polishing).
By grinding several layers of acrylic paint with water, the paint is scraped off the surface, revealing the layers of color from below.
Through the act of scraping and removing layers of paint using traditional Japanese techniques, he removes categorization and depicts the essential “positive human being,” stripped of all external elements.

金森 満理奈 Marina Kanamori
Painter
1989 Born in Gifu City, Gifu Prefecture Currently lives in Yamagata City, Yamagata Prefecture
2014 Completed graduate studies in Painting, Department of Art Expression, Kyoto University of Art and Design
Using the technique of layering a translucent layer of wax on top of an oil or acrylic portrait of a young girl, her goal in painting is to create an image (ICON) that evokes a special image that is unique to the individual.

He continues to paint under the theme of “ICON.
The word “ICON” has the meanings of 1) idol, 2) symbol, 3) icon, and 4) icon (sacred image).
In the images that abound in the world, you may find something sparkling, an old memory that cannot be verbalized, or an image that is very personal. I wish to create paintings “I C O N” that evoke those special images that are unique to each individual.
After painting a girl or woman in acrylic or oil, I then add a piece of glass or a translucent layer on top of it, making the painted image difficult to see. I believe that the invisible parts and defects bring me closer to “I C O N”.

筒井文那 Fumina Tsutsui

Born in 1992, currently lives in Shizuoka
With each work, he creates a sad yet warm little story about life, death, memory, and existence.
To protect their existence, which should have been alive somewhere in the dead-end world,
My work is also a medium for recording the things that are important in my memory, the things I want to make eternal.
I hope that my memories of them and my stories will remain in this world like fossils even after my death.

豊澤めぐみ Megumi Toyosawa

Born in Tokyo, Japan
I create mainly two-dimensional works with the motif of two girls.
The girls, who look the same, are figures inspired by “friends you can meet only in your dreams.
Since the characters in the dream reflect their own projection and consciousness, they are two sides of the unconscious,
The subject matter of her work is the acceptance of contrasting aspects of oneself, self-esteem, and self-love.
Based in Tokyo, they have recently participated in art fairs and group exhibitions in Kansai and abroad.
