KINOSHO KIKAKU is pleased to present “East End Girl,” a solo exhibition by TARTAROS featuring the latest works from his unique series of “Ukiyo-e Banknote Paintings,” a fusion of ukiyo-e and the symbol of modern capitalism, paper money.
Hokusai’s waves, Utamaro’s female figures, and the 1,000-yen bill and the $ bill.
This exhibition presents contemporary portraits standing at the intersection of capital and beauty from the perspective of “East End.

This friendly yet stimulating talk session will unravel the artist’s own roots, the relationship between capitalism and art, and future prospects through a dialogue with cultural researcher Hiroki Yamamoto.

Hiroki Yamamoto, Cultural Researcher
D. (PhD in Fine Art) from Chelsea College of Arts, University of the Arts London.
He has explored postcolonial theory, visual culture, and alternative education in a cross-cutting manner. He attempts to connect society and art through critical writing, exhibition planning, and educational activities.

TARTAROS｜Contemporary Artist
Lives and works in Okinawa. He has been showing a series of “Ukiyo-e Banknote Paintings” using banknotes, gold leaf, acrylics, etc., connecting Ukiyo-e and the symbols of capitalism. He has been actively exhibiting his works at art fairs and galleries in Japan and abroad, including Tokyo, Osaka, Taipei, and Dubai.
